Happy New Year to you all.
Telemarketing is still growing… and it’s not surprising given the economic conditions that face many of us (allegedly).
As a part of the marketing mix, it’s probably still the only area where direct, real time contact with and access to people (whether you call them suspects, prospects or customers) can happen in advance of a face to face meeting.
At www.ki-work.com, they recognise this too which is why we’re taking the leading role in the telemarketing category.

This month I had the privilege of being interviewed by one of the UK Retail Motor Industry’s leading figures: Jeff Smith.
Jeff is dedicated to improving dealership profitability and customer satisfaction within the Retail Motor Industry.
In an industry that seems to take nothing but hard knocks during an economic downturn, Jeff has made a name for himself as the retail motor industry’s leading profitability guru, especially in service departments.
In this first interview on Taking The Phone In Small Steps, Jeff and I focus on getting prepared for calling: The mindset, objectives, and tips that will put first-time callers at ease and perhaps give renewed vigour to using the telephone for those who’ve done it before.

One of my contacts from the ecademy.com network, Charlie Brown, has put together these 10 tips / check points for coping in tough economic conditions. What’s interesting is Charlie’s observation that increasing marketing and sales activity, rather than cutting back on it, will produce strong results. Remember to include your comments, they are most welcome.
Some people have asked for my thoughts about coping during difficult times. I’ve survived a couple of recessions. Here are a few ideas. They might appear to be obvious, but it doesn’t do any harm to remember them.

For many people, sounds something like this:
I can’t call, I won’t call, I don’t have the time,
I’m scared of rejection, I’m sure it’s a crime
To interrupt someone when they are at work,
And ask them a question, they’ll just go berserk!
Where will all the new clients come from I wonder,
If I use the phone I just know that I’ll blunder
My way through the call, make a poor first impression
But if no-one does, will we beat the recession?

It’s true that a great many telemarketing projects get started without the client (for whom the telemarketing is being done) hearing a single call. Some don’t even hear or meet with the person making the calls! Does that sound crazy to some of you?
Well, so that none of you feel cheated in any way, here is something I prepared earlier.
This is an interview on the value of business networking. Stan Relihan is asking the questions. Stan is from Australia, a top headhunter and one of the most connected people on LinkedIn, the online business networking platform.
